Community Investment Bill Unanimously Passes House
Bill Makes Targeted Investments in Community Projects Across the State
Santa Fe, NM- Today, the House voted unanimously to pass SB 1, known as the Junior Bill. The Junior Bill provides funding for critical community projects and services throughout New Mexico.
“The Junior Bill is an important tool that allows us to invest in every corner of New Mexico by providing smaller, yet critically important projects with the funding they need to succeed,” said Speaker Brian Egolf (D-Santa Fe). “The Junior Bill puts part of our state surplus directly into our communities, helping New Mexicans who might otherwise get left behind.”
The Junior Bill invests in community projects throughout the state, including efforts to increase literacy, improve public safety, and grow our economy.
“We listen to community input year-round to determine how these funds can most responsibly meet the specific needs of our districts,” said House Appropriations and Finance Committee Chair Patricia Lundstrom (D-Gallup). “In smaller communities like mine, our needs don’t always rise to the high level of funding that we consider in the state budget.”
The Junior Bill funds existing programs which have already been analyzed and vetted, to ensure efficient spending.
Earlier in the day, the Junior Bill passed the Senate. The Junior Bill is one of two legislative priorities during this Special Session, which is focused on bringing relief to families and investing in communities across New Mexico.
