Representative D. Wonda Johnson Appointed Co-Chair of Indian Affairs Interim Committee

Santa Fe, NM- Representative D. Wonda Johnson (D-Church Rock) has been appointed by Speaker Brian Egolf (D-Santa Fe) to be the House co-chair of the Indian Affairs Interim Committee. The Indian Affairs Interim Committee includes members from both the House and Senate and works to address policy and issues that affect Native American communities across New Mexico.

“I look forward to working directly with our Native American communities to make sure their voices are heard on legislation that impacts them,” said Representative Johnson. “On issues like state-tribal relations, missing indigenous individuals, education, health access and rural infrastructure, our committee ensures tribal communities always have a seat at the table.”

“Representative Johnson has long been a champion for Native families in New Mexico and I was deeply impressed by her leadership in increasing access to relief and resources for affected Diné communities during the pandemic,” said Speaker Egolf. “Her strong record as a legislator and as House Democratic Caucus Chair demonstrate that she will be an effective Chairwoman.”

The Indian Affairs committee will hold public meetings in Native American communities across New Mexico to hear directly from concerned and impacted individuals.
