Bill Reinvigorating the NM Sports Authority Passes House Unanimously

Santa Fe, NM- The House voted unanimously tonight to pass HB 134, which would create the foundation to grow New Mexico’s professional and amateur sports industries.

HB 134 would enable the Sports Authority Division of the New Mexico Tourism Department to create an environment for amateur and professional sporting events to thrive in New Mexico. It would foster relationships between sports teams and communities and work to increase the number of sporting events in New Mexico, identify opportunities for public-private sports infrastructure partnerships, and expand the sports-related tourism industry.

“Reinvigorating the Sports Authority would help grow mature and professional sporting events and boost tourism in rural New Mexico,” said Representatives Antonio ‘Moe’ Maestas.

HB 134 is sponsored by Representatives Maestas and T. Ryan Lane (R-Aztec).

The Roundhouse is open to the public for the session. Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination will be required to enter the building. Members of the public can view floor sessions and committee meetings on the New Mexico legislature’s Webcasts tab, and provide comment via phone or Zoom as directed on the daily schedule.
